Review of Whole House Water Filter Triple 20"

We have had one of these units installed for over a year.I did the installation myself which involved average complexity plumbing including pipe sweating and rerouting as well as the fabrication of appropriate unions and shut offs for the unit.We have it in the basement under the kitchen feeding the kitchen cold faucet, dishwasher and the icemakers.

Installation was fairly difficult as the unit had numerous internal and external leaks resulting from ill-fitting supplied parts.Generally, the unit showed fairly low quality manufacturing with high tolerances, sloppy fit and LOTS of mold flashing as well as sealant and teflon tape on the internal joints to correct the slop.Believe it or not, in order to get the unit to stop leaking at the in and out fittings, I had to use 4 o-rings on the supplied nipples (which were not made to use 0-rings) along with 2 rolls of teflon tape b/c the tolerances were so large.Once installed, the unit functioned fine, until it was time to change the filters.

The filters from CQ are very expensive for what you get.And they don't tell you until after you purchase that they recommend "maintenance" on many of their filters which includes soaking them in salt water and/or peroxide every 6 months. The quality of the filter itself is poor. When I opened up the unit last week to change the filters, the $150 multi stage filter had blown apart and thrown charcoal pellets all over the interior of the unit.In one year.

On the plus side, the support at CQ has been great.Very responsive and very nice folks.

Do yourself a favor and stick to a name brand unit and filters like Pentek.I now use pentek filters in the CQ housing since replacing the housing outright is just too expensive. The filters are of much higher quality and seem to fit just fine even in the QC.And they cost less than 1/3rd of what CQ was trying to charge me for a new set of filters.Good luck.
